Banner: How to Fix a Stuck Print Queue (Windows & Mac)

A stuck print queue can block every new document even when your printer is online. The fix is usually simple: cancel pending jobs, restart print services, and reconnect the printer if needed.

Signs Your Print Queue Is Stuck

Common symptoms include: jobs stuck on "Pending" or "Printing" for a long time, print jobs duplicating, printer not responding after one failed document, or new jobs never reaching the device.

Quick Fix (Windows)

1. Open SettingsBluetooth & devicesPrinters & scanners. 2. Select your printer → Open print queue. 3. Cancel all pending jobs. 4. Restart the printer and your computer.

Try printing a one-page test document.

Restart the Print Spooler (Windows)

If jobs stay stuck, restart spooler services:

1. Press Windows + R → type services.msc → Enter. 2. Find Print Spooler. 3. Right-click → Restart.

You can also run Command Prompt as Administrator and use: net stop spooler net start spooler

Clear Spool Files Manually (Windows)

If the queue still does not clear:

1. Stop Print Spooler service. 2. Go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS. 3. Delete all files in that folder. 4. Start Print Spooler again.

This removes corrupted pending jobs that the queue UI cannot delete.

Fix Stuck Print Queue on Mac

1. Open System SettingsPrinters & Scanners. 2. Select your printer and open the queue. 3. Cancel all jobs. 4. If stuck, remove the printer ( - ) and add it again ( + ).

For persistent queue issues, restart your Mac and printer, then print a test page.

Prevent Queue Problems

Keep printer drivers updated, avoid sending very large corrupted PDFs repeatedly, and wait for failed jobs to fully clear before resubmitting. For shared office printers, ask users to cancel failed jobs before retrying.
